WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
For the zine, we are looking for poems, writing and visual art that connect, reflect, and play with the theme of radically human. We are looking for pieces that resonate, that have an authentic voice, that as we read vibrate radical genuineness. Yes, this was definitely written by a human and captures the human experience.
ABOUT THE ZINE:
Our humanity is under attack. It has been under attack for centuries (genocide, murder, kidnapping, shooting victims, torture, etc are not new), but now it is breaching mainstream consciousness in a terribly beautiful way.
Decades of the Hollywood and video game industries worshipping death, war, and violence are making their way out of the screen and into our lives! It’s time to stop accepting this as the “new normal” and take action!
We are preparing for the end of times thanks to prioritizing profit over people and electing saviors instead of leaders. Protected classes are now under threat, too – thanks to AI, Tyler Robinson, & Luigi Mangione, and the impact of social media on our health.
The wealthiest are buying acres in the middle of nowhere with large supplies of water or preparing to move to the moon!
The fear is real. This is a very scary time. Our 20th Century Infrastructure is falling apart!! We need a new one, one that takes in the centuries of wisdom we have at our finger tips about what we need as humans to thrive.
What have you learned having studied centuries of human thought preserved by writing and books and the archive (or connecting to your past lives!), and how have you put that into action in your life? How are you trying to?!What makes a human a human and not a robot? What is this 21st Century infrastructure that needs to be built? What is the vision, the utopia? What are some alternative plans to counter Project 2025?
What human experiences have been left out of the story, of policies, of our mainstream culture and consciousness?! If it is your own story, please share with us!!!
In this time, it is a radical political act to be human: to make mistakes, to use a public bathroom or even have access to a private one, to remove or not remove your body hair, to go for a walk (did you use a wheelchair, did you have a stroller or a walker or high heels on your feet?!), to eat.
The very act of going for a walk without taking a picture, without posting on Instagram or texting a friend on WhatsApp is a radical political act! To do something just for you, just for the joy of it, to be experienced, a cherished memory for you, or perhaps to spend hours of private play transforming the experience into art and share it with much reflection about what you are trying to communicate about your human experience for us to publish and celebrate and perform in this zine!!
WHO SHOULD SUBMIT:
All poets, artists, and writers are welcome to submit. Those who identify as woman, trans, queer, global majority, indigenous, neurodivergent, differently-abled, veteran, senior, student, teacher, child, or weird are especially encouraged to submit.
WHAT TO SEND:
Please send us a a short bio and artist photo, artist statement explaining how your piece(s) connects to the theme and up to two pieces of art (poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, visual art, photography, song and video are accepted). Some will be published in our print anthology and some available on our online publication.
We are working to have these both available before the festival, however, we are embracing human error and being realistic; this project is an unpaid labor of love done voluntarily and must work around the demands of living in a dysfunctional, capitalist, individualistic city. If you expect perfection, please do not submit. If you are writing for our approval and will stop writing if you are not accepted, please do not submit.
The longer your piece is, the less likely it is to be printed.
If you would like to be considered to perform your piece at the Voices of Los Feliz Celebration as part of the Los Feliz Writers Festival 2026, please share about your connection to the neighborhood, as we are highlighting local writers.
MONEY AND RIGHTS:
All creators who have work accepted for publication who are able to attend the launch party will receive one complimentary physical copy of their issue of the Radically Human. All other contributors will receive a digital version.
You retain all rights to your work. We only request that you do not republish/reuse the work again within three months of the issue being published. We also ask that you share the news of your acceptance, share the issue, pieces of your work within, and whatever else you can think of to help get the word out.

We are open to taking the zine on the road, so if you’d like to help us organize readings around town/the world, do get in touch!
