This film was some honest white Jewish boy problems that was raw and vulnerable and spoke to some deep truths. These grown-up cousins were sensitive and felt their feelings, and sometimes even cried.
It really is the return of the white Jewish boy with Adam Brody in Nobody Wants This making all the ladies swoon. Although I’m not sure if anyone wanted to date Benji or David. I think I would have gone for David, Benji reminded me too much of my brother.
The movie is about two grown-up cousins who go on a history tour of Poland to visit where their grandma lived before emigrating to the US after her passing. It felt like ASMR Poland Tour, which was fun and intense – they do visit a concentration camp.
I’ve traveled around Eastern Europe and visited a concentration camp and am Jewish, so a lot of their experiences as well as their sensitivity, mental health, and anxiety resonated with my own experience despite being a white Jewish girl.
Overall, I was glad to see it and would recommend. It was like a novel, although not because in a novel – they would have gone so fucking deep into the pain that you would all be weeping, but it’s harder to do that with a movie and way more traumatic (hence why 50 Shades of Gray didn’t translate well to film).
