Haley

By Sammy Ginsberg

you read my poems to understand me,
i tried to read your body language.
every time we hang out,
i just feel happy,
like we could sit there and do nothing
it would all be just fine
or we could go on an adventure
and it would be just as fine.
through four of the most changing,
shaping, sad, odd, happy
years,
we were friends
you held me as i cried
you showed me that it's okay
to feel another emotion other than happy,
especially around other people
you helped me speak up for myself,
and called me out on my vague half-truths.
you made me a real person.
when we said 'see you soon',
it felt like see you soon
four months, four years, forever
things are gonna change,
we are gonna change,
our friendship will always be,
or at least for a very long time.

i went to hsmc to find a best friend,
and i found you.
