"Happy birthday" ringing and I am still singing,
and with her hand in my hand
and her step two of mine,
I walk through the door and find
my brother's new train set.
My face turns green while the little train chugs.
Every time my brother is with my dad and i with mother,
there is a new toy for our toys,
there is my brother's new prize,
but today my mother and brother
left holding hands, and it was my chance.
I couldn't wait to see my brother's face turn green as well.
We sat on the couch, a plate of tomatoes on my dad's lap.
and I waited for him to ask me,
for him to say lets go to the toy shop,
"Do you want to try one?" he asked,
my heart sputtered and stopped.
The train rolled on as the red dribbled on my face.
So odd, I thought as the watery-goodness filed past,
"do you like it?" he asked,
I nodded.
And later when
my brother came home,
I threw my tomato at him and watched his face turn red.
