Excited to introduce you to the art of Isha Sakhalkar.
BIO
Isha Sakhalkar is a Los Angeles-based vocalist, pianist, and songwriter. Isha brings together indie rock, musical theater, and Hindustani classical influences to create a unique sonic landscape of powerful vocals and evocative melodies. In her music, she enjoys creating and exploring new worlds, celebrating identity, and spreading joy and hope to her community.
Q&A
LP: How would you describe your art?
I would describe my music as imaginative and fantastical, yet grounded in real emotion; it is a way of escaping into other worlds while processing the realities of this one.
LP: When did you start performing?
I have been singing and playing piano since I was a young child, and started performing original music in 2016 when I was in college at on campus events and open mics in the community. I loved it so much that I haven’t stopped since!
LP: Who are your influences?
Queen, Green Day, and Paramore.
LP: If you were given $1,000 dollars for an art project, what would you do?
I would love to make a music video for one of the songs on my album, Superheroes! Music videos are something I haven’t yet explored, and I think it would be really cool to add a new medium to the story of the album.
LP: What do you think the function of art is in the 21st century?
I think now more than ever, art is political, a way of expressing oneself in a time where voices are being marginalized and speech is being censored. For me, art is about building community, spreading love, and inspiring hope and action to fight back and make positive change in the world.
LP: Why did you sign up to perform at PorchFest 2025?
I’ve heard about Porchfest in the past but haven’t yet had a chance to perform! It seems like a lovely community event to bring people together for the love of art, and I would love to be a part of it!
