Excited to introduce you to the art of Lisa Laureta.
BIO
Lisa is a recovering comedian who learned animation and puppetry to turn their bits and scripts into videos and live puppet pieces. Sock Karen and Cyber Charles also often accompany Lisa to protests, which explains why their eyes are so bloodshot; all the tear gas.
Q&A
LP: How would you describe your art?
silly but satirical, and even when I try not to be political it almost always inevitably goes there
LP: When did you start performing?
straight outta the birth canal
LP: Who are your influences?
Pee Wee, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, Jim Henson, Matt Stone and Trey Parker
LP: If you were given $1,000 dollars for an art project, what would you do?
I would probably finally finish a short film I’ve been working on for ages. I need to film the human parts and would want to pay the actors which is what’s been holding me up.
LP: What do you think the function of art is in the 21st century?
I don’t know about the century but I think right now, it’s important to laugh at the wannabe dictators. Satire is extremely powerful, especially when we’re fighting narcissists. They love our anger and even more love when we give up, but they don’t know what to do with us making them the butt of our jokes. Humor is hugely powerful, and it’s a gift that none of them have. So when we point out how ridiculous they are, and laugh at them, well, if you’ve ever been around a narcissist you know how powerful that can be.
LP: Why did you sign up to perform at PorchFest 2025?
Cause it’s so fun! You get to meet a bunch of other fellow weirdos, sometimes you get to meet dogs, it’s super playful, anything can happen.
