Excited to introduce you to the art of Broca Ray.

BIO
Broca Ray is Lower Merion-born, Venice-based, and thrilled you’re connecting with their music!! Their earliest memory is singing Carole King, and they have not stopped since. Broca Ray has been songwriting since 2020, inspired by growing up listening to Jill Sobule, and whatever underground rock Dad played for them in the car.
Q&A
LP: How would you describe your art?
My style ranges from indie synth-pop to all musings of folk and rock. Thematically, I write to resonate with the communities I’m apart of.
LP: When did you start performing?
I’ve been onstage since I was a peanut, but only started performing original music in March of 2024.
LP: Who are your influences?
Early 70s folk rock like Neil Young and Richie Havens, 90s Grunge-Rock like Soundgarden, and contemporary artists like Cory Hanson and Adrienne Lenker.
LP: If you were given $1,000 dollars for an art project, what would you do?
I’d rent a cool location with high ceilings and record a live FREE concert.
LP: What do you think the function of art is in the 21st century?
I believe art serves to reject and embrace traditional values. Rejection of tradition can serve as a protest against the horrors of the time. On the flip side, art is also a vessel for preservation of culture. I try to walk the line in my music by drawing inspiration from traditional forms, but subverting them with anti-establishment themes like queerness.
LP: Why did you sign up to perform at PorchFest 2025?
I love the West-side creative community!! I can’t wait to meet other people in the area who want to engage with all kinds of art :)))
