Update #10: I’m in London

Plot twist! I’m in London. I’ll be here until July 21st. It’s been a time.

I don’t have much time to write, as I’m leaving to go visit my Grandma Myra in the hospital. She is recovering from a broken hip and is in a ward at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow. That’s the reason I’m here.

I was planning on staying in LA the whole summer, possibly canceling my trip or just going for a week. And then I got the news that Grandma was in hospital. It was a Wednesday night. I freaked out. In my heart, I knew I had to be with her.

The next day, Thursday, I booked my flight for Friday. Saturday evening after 3 hours of sleep and a 2 hour drive from Gatwick to Bishop Stortford (my first time driving a car in the UK!), I walked in.

“Grandma, I’m here.”

“Sammy, I’m so glad you are here.” Such relief. We held hands, and I sat by the bed until visiting hours ended.

My Dad is an only child and just got back from visiting Grandma for two weeks and helping her move into a nursing home. I was already sad that I would never be able to sit and watch her TV shows together in the living room. My parents are planning to sell the house. The home that my Dad has lived in since he was two. A place filled with so much love and happy memories. My favorite place.

Now I’m here living in the house and it is sad and odd and home. The only ghost living here is a friendly one, my Grandpa Derek!

I’m still sorting out my work situation.

Lots of emails and calls with my union, HR, and my administrators as well as a job interview at very odd hours. It’s a lot easier to have hard conversations when it’s 11pm at night and you’re in the UK 5,000 miles away from the person who your body tells you has been attacking you when you’ve spent all day in a hospital where the women have to use diapers to poo because they physically are not strong enough to get up.

Also had some exciting developments about the Los Feliz Writers Festival that I’m OVER the MOON about!!

I’ll share some pictures in the next one!

Sending lots of love!!

Also I published three reviews – if interested!
